Become a Better Googler!
Everyone knows how to "Google," but not everyone Googles well. Here are some tips and tricks for Googling more efficiently.
- Search within a site or domain. Find pages within sites using site:[website URL] and your search phrase, find authors using author:[name], and type intitle:[word] to find a page with that word in the title.
- Be Specific. Looking for an exact quote? Put it in quotes - "image all the people"
- Format. Use filetype:[jpg or other extension] to find images and all sorts of files (such as docs and pdfs)
- Broaden Your Search. Use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard search operator to fill in the blanks. For example, "Why money is *"
- Source: Find pages from a specific country by adding the country code to the site:[country code]. For example site:IR will give results from Iran. Here is a list of country codes. You can also specify the type of sites in your search such as site:edu or site:org or site:gov
- Limit Search Results: For words that have more than one meaning use the "-". For example:
- Search for Pages that are similar to a URL To find sites that are similar to a URL you already know, use the related: operator. For example, when you search for related sites to the New York Times, you'll find other news publication sites you may be interested in. related:nytimes.com
- Search for a number range. Separate numbers by two periods without spaces (..) to see results that contain numbers in a given range of things like dates, prices, and measurements.camera $50..$100
